Character Creation

Cyberpunk 2077 character customization will offer a very in-depth system. We’ve already seen some of the options in both the 48 minute gameplay reveal as well as the 15 minute deep dive. See the Links at the bottom of the page for those videos.

We combined information from both of these sources to but together a brief video about the Cyberpunk 2077 Character Customization options.

***One Important note here is that all of this footage is Work In Progress footage / images and is subject to change when the game releases.

Cyberpunk 2077 Character Customization

For some quick insight, watch our YouTube video to get the overview of what’s below.

OK, so let’s talk more about the Customization options we’ve seen so far in Cyberpunk 2077.

#1 – Select your Life Path

The first thing in the Character Customization process we see is the selection of a Life Path. In the 48 min reveal this was presented differently than in the 15 minute deep dive. Since the Deep Dive is more recent, we’ll go with that route.

So there are three Life Paths, the Nomad, Street Kid & Corporate Life Paths. It remains to be seen how selecting one of these paths will change the outcome of the game, but the developers have assured us there will be effects depending on the path you choose.

#2 – Select your Body Type & Appearance

Selecting your Gender, no doubt will have an impact on your overall player appearance, but most likely with how some of the NPC’s will act / react around you.

As we know the game has a lot of sexual content within it, your gender will for sure carry with it different ramifications. It is also well known at this point that you can customize facial features, styles and body features including your genitalia (which seems to be all the rage right now).

Appearance & Style

In both the Gameplay reveal and Deep Dive, we see similar but different ways to change the appearance of your character. This image of V was from the Gameplay reveal.

This Image was from the 48 minute gameplay reveal, showing options for Face, Hair, Scars, and other Biometric / Appearance options.

The Deep Dive showed us a different look of V as a Male, with some customization options, many of which were the same, some slightly different.

Attribute selection will effect how we distribute points among the various perks within the game.

Style and Gear Equipping

Here we see how we can equip items to V in order to change the style, or clothes and even the weapons equipped.

Attribute & Perk Tree

The Perk tree is how you kit out the attributes. In the following section, Playstyle, there are some predefined playstyles which will adjust your attributes accordingly. Also, as the game progresses and you earn more attribute and perk points, you can modify your character however you see fit.

Below shows an example Perk Tree. Within the Perk Tree Each Attribute has its own Perks

Reflexes – Handguns, Rifles & Blades
Cool – Assassination, Nerve & Sniper Rifles
Technical – Engineering
Body – Shotguns, Two-Handed, Melee & Athletics
Intelligence – Hacking

#3 – Playstyle

Your Playstyle will affect your player attributes and Perks. We can see from the Deep Dive video, that there are 2 primary playstyles that have been shown, the Netrunner and the Strong Solo.

Selecting a Playstyle will kit out your attributes to go more inline with a Netrunner (think Hacker) or a Strong Solo (muscle for hire). Each of these playstyles can create a very strong Cyberpunk character, it just depends on how you prefer to play the game. Stealth & Hacking, or more of an in your face Terminator approach.

Netrunner

The Netrunner is your hacker. As everything and person within Cyberpunk is somehow linked to the network, it has the ability to be hacked. From soda machines to advanced computer systems to even other characters, almost everything in Night City can be hacked, and thus used as a weapon. The Netrunner excels at hacking and uses this ability against their foes in Night City. The Netrunner Playstyle offers the following Attributes.

AttributesPointsPerks
Reflexes4Handguns, Rifles & Blades
Cool9Assassination, Nerve & Sniper Rifles
Technical7Engineering
Body4Shotguns, Two-Handed, Melee & Athletics
Intelligence9Hacking
The Strengths of the Netrunner are Cool & Intelligence

Strong Solo

The Strong Solo is your Mercenary or Muscle for Hire. They are adept with weapons of all sorts and very technical. They prefer a more in your face approach and would prefer being the Terminator, rather than hacking from the shadows. The Strong Solo playstyle offers the following attributes

AttributesPointsPerks
Reflexes7Handguns, Rifles & Blades
Cool4Assassination, Nerve & Sniper Rifles
Technical9Engineering
Body9Shotguns, Two-Handed, Melee & Athletics
Intelligence4Hacking
The Strengths of the Strong Solo are Body & Technical

Character Combos

So, based off of the 3 primary selections above (Life Path, Body Type & Playstyle), there are 12 different combos that can be built.

Nomads

Roaming the Badlands, looting scrapyards, raiding fuel depots – life on the road wasn’t easy. But growing up in a nomad clan has its perks. Honesty, integrity, and a love of freedom – qualities that few in Night City possess, and no amount of money can buy.

#1 & 2 – Nomad Netrunners (M & F)
#3 & 4 – Nomad Strong Solo (M & F)

Street Kids

They say if you wanna understand the streets, you gotta live’em. Gangs, fixers, dolls, small-time pushers – you were raised by them all. Down here the law of the jungle dictates the weak serve the strong – the only law in Night City you have yet to break.

#5 & 6 – Street Kid Netrunner (M & F)
#7 & 8 – Street Kid Strong Solo (M & F)

Corporate

Few leave the corporate world with their lives – fewer still with their souls intact. You’ve been there – you’ve bent the rules, exploited secrets, and weaponized information. There’s no such thing as a fair game, only winners and losers.

#9 & 10 – Corporate Netrunner (M & F)
#11 & 12 – Corporate Strong Solo (M & F)

As you can see, there has currently been a substantial amount of variety available when choosing how to initially develop your character. As with any RPG though, this is only a starting point, and how/where you take your character from here will be for you to decide.
